100 Miles to Nowhere - June 3rd

Join Doug and Steph Bachman on Sunday, June 3rd at the Brown Dog House for 100 miles of delightful riding and running fun (and a yard party/aid station/sprinkler festival)!

The Ride:
Ten (or however many you feel like) loops of a 10 mile loop (here is the route), from our house in Roswell, past the horses, through the City of Mountain Park and back home. Riders of all abilities are welcome and there may also be a group of us riding a shorter flatter route from a nearby shopping area (directions will be provided). We ride at dawn, but will be back by the house every 50 minutes or so, so start whenever works for you. If you are nervous about riding with cars, plan to do your lap(s) earlier in the day. I will draw a random winner of a GU prize from the waivers of the people who have ridden at least one loop and everyone gets a special GU surprise.

There is NO FEE. However, this is a fund-raising ride, so I ask that you please donate what you would have spent on the ride to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. We are raising funds to buy biofeedback devices and training programs for the AFLAC Cancer Center to help care-givers teach kids to manage their anxiety and pain better. This will give you a good mantra as you go up Mountain Park Road.

May 2012 Meeting

MAY CLUB MEETING
Date: Wednesday, May 16th
Time: 6:30 p.m. Location: Roswell High School Track

Save May 16th on your calendar to attend our monthly club meeting! Registered Dietitian Casey Hollander will be discussing four key points: importance of nutrition for athletes, fueling for workouts, carbohydrates and an athlete, and the importance of hydration. While everyone focuses on swimming, biking, and running, if you don't have your nutrition set-up correctly it can sabotage all of your hard work or limit your ultimate abilities in your next race. Casey will give us her insight into what we can do to be the best athletes! Click here to learn more about Casey.

We will be meeting at the track at the Roswell High School football stadium to get in a great running workout. So bring your workout clothes!! We will announce an alternative meeting location if the weather doesn't cooperate.

We'll also have club updates, announcement of the Athlete of the Month, and we always have give aways! Click here to send in your nominations for Athlete of the Month. Athlete of the Month nominations should be for someone who achieved success in a race or acomplished an important goal that exemplifies the hard work our members put in every week.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday!

New Beginner Ride Option Starts Tomorrow!

Back by popular demad, we are offering a beginner ride alternative to the Tuesday Night Ride tomorrow.  We will have a couple of people leading this ride and it will be led based upon their availability.  Check the weekly group workout email and Facebook for the details.  Tomorrow, Tuesday May 8th, Michelle Dasher will be leading the ride from Riverside Drive at 6:15pm.  Come out if you want to get on the road and ride in a group!

Beginner Option
From Riverside Drive: If you would like to do a group ride but are not ready to take on the hills or distance of the Tuesday Night Ride route, we will be leading a beginner friendly ride that starts from underneath Hwy 400 off of Old Alabama and Riverside Dr. We will meet at 6pm and roll at 6:15pm. It will take us down to Eves Rd., turn around and come back and turn up into Martins Landing for some easy hills. You can pick the amount of hills you want to do. We will do this a couple of times and then return to the parking lot. Bring your tennis shoes too for a short 10 minute T-run afterwards if your up for it.

Iron Girl Volunteers Needed - May 19th and 20th

We need volunteers to help on Saturday, May 19th and/or Sunday, May 20th. If you have an hour or a whole day, we can use you! If you have any availability, please email me as soon as possible. Remember that you earn a point for each event that you volunteer at and the top 3 members with the most points at the end of the season will receive an awesome gift certificate! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

April Newsletter

The 2012 Season's Here!
This is my favorite part of the year.  It's time to start racing!  It's exciting to see so many of our members really focusing on their training, taking advantage of group workouts and seeing what they can do in early season races.

April Meeting
We had a great turnout for our April meeting at The Sport Factory.  Matt Russ did a great job discussing a few basic and key elements that you need to have in place when designing your training program in order to increase your fitness level.  He also described some of the common pitfalls athletes make, especially as it relates to recovery.

We also welcomed all of our new members.  With so many new faces, it's really exciting to see the energy in the club exceed all of my expectations for the year.  We have several new members who are training for their first triathlon to those training for Ironman events.  Good luck to all and welcome aboard, we can't wait to see how you do this year!

Finally, it wouldn't be a monthly meeting if we didn't give stuff away.  Thanks to PT Solutions we were able to give away a FREE RACE ENTRY to the PT Solutions Allatoona Race on June 24th.  We also gave away a Polar Water Bottle!

We will have our next meeting the second week of May and are excited about the topic - Nutrition for the Endurance Athlete.  We'll send out the details in a Save the Date email.

Publix Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon
Congratulations to everyone who ran in the Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon.  This was my first marathon and it was definitely memorable.  I was obviously excited and anxious but I wasn't ready for the heat and the hills at the end.  However, I finished and am very excited about this accomplishment.  Congratulations to Brian O'Neill who also ran it for his first marathon!

West Point Races and Roswell Cycling Festival
On April 29th, NAMC kicks off its club race season!  And we will be there in force with a dozen members ready to represent!  We will have the tent set-up for everyone to hang out before and after their race.  If you're doing the sprint, hang out and cheer on those racing the Olympic race.

Later in the day we will also be set-up at the Roswell Criterium to enjoy some fast-paced racing.  If you've never seen a criterium, come out and enjoy it with us.  We'll have the tent set-up so stop by and say hi!

Volunteers Needed for Iron Girl
Iron Girl is one of the premier women only races in the Southeast and they need our help!  One of the best parts about being a triathlete is giving back to our sport by volunteering.  If you're available May 20th to volunteer, please let Natasha know. For every volunteer that NAMC provides a donation will be made to the My First Bike charity!

2012 Registration Available
Registration for 2012 is now open! Go ahead and make NAMC a part of your fitness resolutions this year by registering at active.com. Also, we all know people who are interested in our sport and what better way to get them involved than by being part of our club. We would love to see more members join this winter and get started with the club.

What do you want from your club in 2012? Send me your comments at any time because this is your club!

Good luck with your season in 2012!
Brad

We want to know what you want out of your triathlon club.  Now you can tell us!  NAMC has created a survey to help it determine exactly what athletes want in a local triathlon club.  We want as many people as possible to take this survey, especially if you are a current member, used to be a member or you just thought our site was cool and wanted to find out more about us.  We value your feedback and would appreciate it if you would take 3-5 minutes to complete the survey.  The responses are anonymous and will only be used to help us create an even better experience for our members.

So please take the survey by clicking here.
